My two biggest pet peeves are:

beyondthepavement:

1. Things that are badly designed

I have worked with programs so much that whenever I see anything that isn’t designed well the first thought in my head is, “Would it have killed you to align your tab stops?”

2. People who get credit when they really don’t deserve it

Another great personal trait that I’ve gotten from digital design, and I know this one will never go away. I am going to have supervisors and bosses and I really need to get over it, but this still ticks me off. If I put in a ton of time and effort on something, I should get recognition. If you didn’t you shouldn’t. Got that, ex-computer teacher?

I am, by no means, a great designer. There are millions of people out there much, much better than me. I haven’t even touched Photoshop more advanced than crappy elements, but whatever skills I do have, I have worked ridiculously hard for, and usually my computer teacher got credit for it. I have posted a few miscellaneous designs that I liked and posted on facebook, I got a few comments on it. Whatever. Someone else posts a design that they made in Photoshop that could have been made in Powerpoint and looked awful and gets a ton of comments telling him how great he is and asking him how he did it.

It just irks me, and I felt the need to rant.

Helen, I know exactly the feeling. Exactly. I feel I should design something better and post it, just to show him up. But I won’t. Because I’m too nice. And the only reason he got those comments is because he’s “popular”. But funny enough, that doesn’t matter to us! It still sucks. And by “it”, I mean his design.
